Mobile Webs

I surprised even myself by manually clicking through 140 slides on "Rethinking the Mobile Web" by Yiibu. I didn't even know I was interested! What I discovered was that there are some fundamental truths about mobile web programmers that applies to ALL of us. All of the content we programmers (Can I truly consider myself part of this tribe?) come up with must sooner or later reckon with the dilemmas of being seen on variably-sized-screen devices. We can no longer afford to design websites for just one dimension - our own favorite computer screen. Increasingly, more and more of the browsers will be delivering our content via devices for which we never prepared. SO - we had better learn how to adapt our programming styles now, before we get relegated to the ever-growing digital dust heap. Anyway, here's the slideshow that turned my head around:

SimplyMap

I've just discovered a great new mapping tool: SimplyMap, and here's some clear instructions on how to use it: SimplyMap Quick Reference. Also, I found a site with several tutorials on SimplyMap, including videos.


This tool looks especially useful to academics and students, as well as the business world. But hey, maybe I can figure out a use for it too!

Geeks on Tour

We're starting to plan our 2011 road trip,and have just bought the most recent Streets & Trips. This year, I think, we'll save the locations from our itinerary points from Streets and Trips to our GPS. So, I searched around to find out how to do it. What I discovered was a video by the "Geeks on Tour".

Use Case 1

Our team has completed Task #3, and presented Use Case #1 for COIN 71 at Foothill College. Unfortunately, all the work I did was scrapped. Nevertheless, I will present the slideshow I prepared for what I thought was a group process. As it turns out, the "team" became a one-man show. Even if that one student is "the best" of us, it makes me sad to realize that the rest of us are relegated to the sidelines. In fact, I am dismayed by much of what passes for education these days. The courses are designed for separating the cream from the whey, rather than making a wholesome drink for all.
