Podcasting Interviews

Well, I've done the unthinkable - posted on the wrong blog! This post belongs on Webs2Go: Recording Interviews Online. Instead, I posted it on a professional site: NARFE 65 SF. OOPS! Not only that - I used the conversational, personal approach of this learning blog, instead of the impersonal, professional approach. OUCH! What to do? Well, the irony is, I don't think anyone's actually looking at either one of these blogs. But, just in case, maybe I should remove it. One problem is that this blog is private (I think!), and the other is public. Now I'm merging my privacy/identity preferences. AYYIYI.

What is DAW?

It turns out that DAW stands for "Digital Audio Workstation".

A computer-based DAW has four basic components: a computer, a sound card (also called a sound converter or audio interface), a digital audio editor software, and at least one input device for adding or modifying musical note data.

My, my - all these new terms and components! What have I gotten myself into? Next term to look up will be "audio interface"...

Creating a Home Studio

Graham Cochrane of The Recording Revolution has a 15-minute video called The Recording Studio which I found quite helpful. He mentions 5 essentials to any home studio: a computer, DAW software, an audio interface, a microphone, and headphones. These 5 components form the basis of any home studio, and having them is enough to get started. SO - I have at least 4 out of 5 components - not too sure what an "audio interface" is, but I'll find out soon!

Have you ever wondered what audio mixing is all about? The Recording Revolution has a handy 17-minute video on The 10 Minute Mix Technique. What I liked about viewing this video is that it shows how music is mixed together to create a harmonious result. It's more than I need to know at the moment, but it's good to see what a more-advanced podcast might involve.
