Today begins the Winter quarter at Foothill College, and I'm ready! The class I chose for this quarter is Web Marketing, taught by Mimi Will. The textbook is Web Marketing All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies, and I've already read the first 100 pages. I can't wait to learn-what-I'm-going-to-learn in this class. Hope it will prove usefull! My goal is to re-work the website I created using Adobe's Dreamweaver Suite 8. This website is for San Francisco's NARFE Chapter 65 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees organization. As such, we are not a commercial enterprise. However, I think many of the principles of marketing will apply. We want to attract more federal employees and annuitants, we want more of them to join our organization, and we want a more active membership. Hope you'll join me on this journey! Feel free to make suggestions, and offer your own experiences. Well, let's go!

Zotero
Well, I've just discovered the next best thing - for students, and for me: Zotero. Produced by the Center for History and New Media and (at?) George Mason University, this tool purports to simplify bibliography citations, archiving of articles, allows annotations, and just generally helps you organize information. All this is sync-able, too! I can't wait! I've downloaded version 2.1.8 as a Firefox add-on. Hope to put it to use soon! Now all I need is an easy way to take computerize-able notes in classes...

Mobile Office on the Go
ScanSnap has a new video showing how easy it is to set up a mobile office on the go. How? Simply connect the ScanSnap 1100 (or 1300, which is the model I have) and your Field Monitor Pro to your laptop via USB, and you're good to go. Sounds easy, no? Now I have to find out what a Field Monitor Pro is!

Pivot Tables
My next project involves organizing an inventory of household items. I want to make this inventory sharable, and updatable. So, the first step was to create the inventory using Excel, and then upload it to Google Docs. Next, I will send an email to those I want to help me edit the list. Meanwhile, I'm learning that there is more that we can do with the data. This video tells us how to create a Pivot Table, which is an easy way to display and analyze data. I'm going to try it out later, and see how useful it is. Meanwhile, here's the video:
